In today’s world, where business owners do a hundred tasks and quench dozens of fires daily, being fatigued has become a plague that is costing many businesses.
Stress, pressure, and exhaustion that come with running a business limit the potential of many businesses and render their owners ineffective.
Fatigue refers to a mental or physical state of extreme tiredness and lack of energy.
You know you are fatigued when you find it difficult to get up in the morning or carry out your usual activities, or are always feeling the need to sleep but can never get enough of it.
Here are four ways you can avoid business owner fatigue:
To avoid getting fatigued, business owners need to manage their time properly.
Typically, a business owner has a hundred tasks to perform to ensure the business is running smoothly. But no matter how productive you are, you cannot get it all done as quickly as you need them done.
That is why you need to create a to-do list. Then rank them in order of priority, so you always get your most important tasks done before you get exhausted.
Another time management tip you can apply here is to set a schedule that set the duration of time you would work and specify the tasks to be done.
But you have to stick to it as this will help you avoid getting overwhelmed.
You may not like it, but your ability to delegate tasks successfully would lift a great deal of burden off your shoulders and help you avoid business owner fatigue.
Small business owners often try to do everything themselves, but it’s impossible, and they soon learn the hard way.
Delegating some tasks you don’t enjoy or lack the expertise to perform can cut the time you spend working and free up some more to spend socializing and getting the rest you need.
Business owners think that the longer the hours they work, the more they can get done and the better the business.
Ordinarily, I can see how that would make sense.
But in reality, the more you overwork and sacrifice sleep and family time, the less valuable you are to your business.
The human body does not have an infinite capacity. In fact, because of a lack of work/life balance, business owners become less productive, start forgetting things and become a hindrance to the growth of the business.
Rest, socialization, family, sleep, exercise, and activities that interest you outside the business are equally important to business success and avoiding fatigue as hiring employees, creating new products, and marketing them.
Running a business is not always easy.
And you don’t always have a reason for celebration.
And when those moments come, you can be tempted to see them as insignificant or quickly move to the next milestone, but to avoid business owner fatigue, you have to celebrate whatever wins you achieve, no matter how small.
The reason is that celebrating small victories in your business can motivate, inspire, and help relieve stress. It takes time and a lot of small wins to reach the big goals you have set for your business. The more you go without celebrating those small wins, the more fatigued you will become before you reach your big goals.
